Welcome to the Year of: FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS - "GUIDELINES FOR LIFE"
Watchword: COMMITMENT Dick and I hope that none of our Eastern Star members ever become the missing "I" from our Watchword Motto : "I have a Commitment To My Faith, Family, Friends and to My Eastern Star Chapter
Dear Sisters and Brothers, This year has been going by very quickly. The Worthy Grand Patron and I are enjoying visiting Chapters across our beautiful State. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the Visitations/Receptions, 100th celebrations and 119th Session of the Grand Chapter at Dayton Convention Center September 26, 27, 28. Our Grand Secretary Sister Barbara Price will be sending to each Chapter Secretary the Proposed Amendments to the Bylaws and other proposed Legislation for Consideration at the 2008 Grand Chapter Session. I would ask that each Chapter Secretary read these in Chapter and give copies to those in your Chapter who plan to attend Grand Chapter. I hope each of you that plan to attend Grand Chapter will take the time to read these proposals carefully and come prepared to vote on Saturday September 27, 2008. This is your Grand Chapter and you make the final decisions. The Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron (bus) project for our Mt Vernon Eastern Star Home has received $15,000 to date. The Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy Project has received $2,640 from individuals, Districts, and Sunshine Collections to date. I thank you for these donations and for all the other donations your Chapters have made to both our Eastern Star Charities and your Local Charities. The Charities Directors have been hard at work this year and I am proud of each of them. Their respective Chapters have given generously to their projects. The Worthy Grand Patron and I thank the Grand Officers, Past Grand Matrons and Past Grand Patrons, Deputy Grand Matrons, Charities Directors, Committee Members, their assistants, and all who helped make 2008 GREAT. A very special thank you to Carol Krekus our Web Master for her hard work and for doing such a wonderful Job. We will be honored by the Most Worthy Grand Matron of the General Grand Chapter, Sister Barbara Benton at our Grand Chapter Session this year. She is a lovely lady and I look forward to her visit to Ohio Grand Chapter Session. Friends are like quilts Lives pieced together Stitched with smiles & tears Colored with promises And bound by love. Star Love, Catherine F. Jones W. G. M.
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other. While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.
