17th District Cancer Walk

The 17th District Cancer Walk was initiated by PGP Ray Belfrage in 1981, making this the 29th annual walk.  In the 28 previous years, a total of $275,000 has been raised for the care and support of cancer patients and cancer research. The total for this year will not be known until the end of July, when all walkers will have collected their pledges and forwarded them to the 17th District Cancer Project.

More than 100 walkers participated in this year's event. Several Grand Chapter officers supported the event with their attendance, including WGM Jan Goerss; AGM Sue Kerns and her husband Larry; Associate Grand Conductress Barbara Pelfrey and her husband, E.C.; Grand Warder Gail Walsh and her husband, Jimmie; and Grand Chaplain Janet Sheehan. Also present was PGP KIen Scott of Worthington Chapter and his wife, Rita, Grand Representative of Scotland

A number of District #17 members have attended every one of the 17th Distict Cancer Walks, including PGMs Marilyn Rowley, of Grove City Chapter, and Maxine Jeffers of Worthington Chapter. The chair of this year's walk was Betsy Abshire of Eugenie Chapter, with Carrie McGlaughlin of Level Chapter, serving as co-chair.  Brother Ray announced, at the event, that the 2011 walk will be chaired by Carrie McGlaughlin, with Cynthia Chadwell, of Grove City Chapter.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a fantastic job of coordinating the first Heart Dance. I know that a lot of time and preparation went in to the dance to make it a successful event. I appreciate all who had any part to make this a very special and fun night. To all who donated, the beautiful auction baskets, delicious food, music, sign makers, printing, advertising, set up and tear down a huge hug for a job well done!

Southwest Ohio's District 20, 21, and 22 - "Sweetheart Dance"

Benefiting our Heart Fund

Between 130 and 140 Sweethearts danced the night away to the music of "The Rejects".  Dancing, laughing, snacking, and enjoying being with friends made the evening a big success.  We voted for King and Queen by making donations, and crowned were

King - Past Grand Patron Barry Metzger of Clermont Chapter

Queen - Bernie Payne, Worthy Matron of Lebanon Chapter - 90 years young!

The evening's festivities raised more than $1,600.  This was thanks to the hard work of Heart Committee Members Sue Booth (20), Nancy Ledford (21), and Sandy Vice (22), aided by members of Lebanon Chapter, District 21 Charities Director Helen Walton, and all their other helpers - but especially by all the Sisters and Brothers, family and friends, who made the Sweetheart Dance a wonderful time.

Please check the Gallery for photos!
